Dřevěnka in Mosty u Jablunkov

A witness of the old times in the centre of the village Mosty u Jablunkova has been a wooden house since 1790. It was originally the home of Szotkowski, the fojt of Most. And as it was customary, he had the nicest cottage in the village. Subsequent generations of the Szotkowski family lived happily in the so-called fojtstvo for many years and carefully preserved old memories and photographs in the family archive. The pictures, which are now in the care of Josef Szotkowski, eventually served as a model for the work on an exact replica of the old timbered building from the mid-18th century. The original timber-framed building and the present one clearly show the original elements of the folk architecture of the Carpathian Arch region.

However, the ravages of time have also gnawed away at the bridge fojtstvo. In 1960, the Szotkowski family moved out of the timbered house and four years later a tree accidentally fell on the timbered house. At that time, part of the log cabin had to be completely demolished. In recent years, the building had deteriorated considerably, the wooden beams were crumbling under the fingers and, apart from the weather, woodworm and various insects had also taken their toll. The last mute witness of the old Gorol times began to disappear before our eyes.

At the turn of 2007 and 2008, the Fojtství started to see a lot of construction activity. A team of architects, craftsmen, historians came to the conclusion that they would restore the old cottage and give it the appearance of the original building. The two-hundred-year-old wooden cottage was rapidly changing under the skilled hands of master carpenters – Tatra mountaineers from Zakopane, Poland.

In 2008, the Gorol Tourist Information Centre was established in the wooden house “Na Fojtství” in the middle of Most u Jablunkov as an interactive centre for learning and developing Gorol customs and traditional crafts.
